Flora Tabanelli has once again demonstrated her dominance in freestyle skiing, securing her first-ever slopestyle World Cup victory in Stoneham, Calgary, on Saturday. The 17-year-old, a regular on the big air podium throughout the 2024/25 FIS Freeski World Cup season, claimed the top spot in the fourth slopestyle World Cup event of the season.
In the women’s final, Tabanelli set the standard early with a strong first run, scoring 80.41 points. Her dynamic performance featured technical and high-difficulty tricks, securing her place atop the podium. No other skier in the final could surpass her score, solidifying her victory.
Reflecting on her win, Tabanelli expressed her excitement:
"It feels really amazing. I’m stoked to do that run. I’m really happy also because slopestyle is not my first discipline."
With her win in Stoneham, Tabanelli now holds 500 points in the overall women’s Park & Pipe standings. Her closest competitor, China’s Eileen Gu, trails by 100 points. With 14 out of 16 World Cup events completed, Tabanelli is just two podium finishes away from securing the overall Crystal Globe for the season.
She has already ensured one Crystal Globe in big air after finishing second in the most recent big air World Cup in Aspen in February. Speaking on her success, Tabanelli shared:
"It’s a dream come true and already I’m really happy to have won overall in big air. I will just concentrate on the last two competitions."
Luca Harrington Earns Another Podium Finish
New Zealand’s Luca Harrington had an impressive performance as well, finishing second in the men’s slopestyle competition. This marks Harrington’s fourth podium of the season, following his second-place finish in big air in Aspen on February 6 and consecutive big air wins in Kreischberg and Klagenfurt (AUT) in January.
With four of the five slopestyle World Cup events now completed, the season’s final competitions are fast approaching. The last slopestyle and big air World Cup contests of 2024/25 will be held in Tignes, France, from March 11 to 14. As the World Cup season nears its conclusion, both Tabanelli and Harrington are in strong positions to finish on a high note.
